Calgary's Helping Hands There are many reasons why people need the services of charitable organizations.
Each one of us has likely fallen on rough times, or know of someone else
who has. During the colder winter months, and especially at Christmas,
our hearts open up and we give freely where and when we can. However, charitable
organizations need to work relentlessly throughout the entire year. With
fund-raising, collecting, distributing donations, and of course keeping
the organizations themselves well organized, there is a continual need
for support from the community as a whole. |

Project Ploughshares - Canada. Since its founding in 1976, Project Ploughshares has promoted the concept
of "common security": that security is the product of mutuality,
not competition; that peace must be nurtured rather than guarded; that
stability requires the reduction of threat and elevation of trust; and
that sustainability depends on participatory decision-making rather than
on exclusion and control. |

Research Jubilee. is an international movement calling for: cancellation of the unpayable
debt , of the world's poorest countries, under a fair and transparent process.
See how you can learn and participate in this continuing process. Bono
is the chair of this NGO and many Canadians have helped in this effort.
It is based upon the scriptural idea of Jubilee whereby debt was to be
forgiven each 50 years and in such a way, avoid the accumulation of wealth

Partenia. In 1995, Pope John Paul II moved Jacques Gaillot, then bishop of Evreux
to Partenia, a place covered with sand. He established a web presence and
continues to be heard. Very much worth a visit. An example from his electronic
catechism, "The Church: The word means "call together",
"convened assembly." The first Christians chose this Greek word
to name their communities because they were aware of being assembled together
not only through their will but also from the call of God. The Church keeps
these two aspects, a human society and an answer to a call coming from
somewhere else. ..." |
