Session # 1 Radical Gratitude   by Mary Jo Leddy
Chapter 1 - Beginnings
"This book is about ordinary grace, which is here for the asking. For free. ... It is about authentic liberation in a culture ... that is chronically dissatisfied. "  p 5      "In a culture of money, that which can neither be bought nor sold is Holy. ... the goodness of beginnings is Holy. ... that which pulls us to the point of our being is Holy. ... those who are grateful are Holy."  p173

Opening by Ken
Ken summarized the last course on Revelations, with a focus on how different the liberal and literal interpretations of Revelations are, and how as a liberal christian he found the study helpful.

Discussion Notes
Q1. In what ways have we like Mary Jo experienced new beginnings?
Q2. She invites us to explore gratitude. What sorts of gratefulness might we better notice in our lives?

Many mentioned that gratitude indeed was a regular spiritual experience. Some considered there was a difference between Leddy's "New Beginnings" and just regular beginnings.
If New Beginnings were life altering, ordinary beginnings were often both significant and welcome.
We have to live gratitude. When life changing events happened, gratitude came to the fore.

Closing by Gerry
He had acquired his copy of Radical Gratitude from a Nun in a Catholic BookClub a few years back, and had written many marginal notes commenting on Mary Jo Leddy's ideas. She had also tucked in a lovely prayer that Gerry read,  "Praying a New Story". Michael Morwood.
We gather
conscious that the Spirit of Wisdom moves in each of us
as it has moved in all people since the beginning of human life,
working in and through whom and what it has to work with.
May we be wise in our sharing, ready to listen
open to learning where new insights and knowledge may take us,
drawing on wisdom that stands the test of time,
and courageous enough to discard whatever can no longer sustain our faith.
We pray that our gathering may allow the Spirit of Wisdom to be expressed here
as graciously, and as clearly, as is humanly possible.
Amen.
