Summary Notes -
Special Guest - Ms. Estella (Tiza) Chewe, Kitwe Zambia
Tiza is a professional electrical engineer. She works for Mopani Mines at Mindolo. She has travelled outside her country and wants to meet professional engineers while in Canada. She has come to the right city!

Tiza is married and has two children, a 5 year old boy and a two year old girl.

Tiza is active in her Mindolo United Church of Zambia congregation. She#serves presently as a Girls Brigade Captain (leads a girls youth group).

Most of the questions asked of Tiza from the group centered on how families cope with the loss of a generation of parents, the role of the grandmothers who have attempted to fill the parenting gaps, and the oldest girl in the#family who often becomes the mother for her younger siblings.

She spoke of how she seeks to build character in the young women with whom#she works. They are encouraged not to seek young marriage as an escape, but to get an education first. There is great nobility in many of the young#girls with whom she works. They have a good mentor to follow.

Tiza also spoke of her own mother, who lives in a rural area in Northern Zambia. Her mother, with little education herself, went to great lengths to make sure her own children, including Tiza, received higher education. This happened at considerable cost, but is something of great pride in the family.

It is through people like Tiza that many of the problems affecting Zambia and other nations of Africa, will be solved. But Tiza needs our support.
